Our client was looking to transform their steeply sloped yard into a functional multi-level outdoor oasis. We created a landscape design that blended soft textures with modern elements.

A series of tiered areas were constructed, each with a unique purpose and aesthetic. The primary tier serves as a welcoming patio and outdoor space for family gatherings which includes areas for dining, cooking, and cozying up by a firepit.

One standout feature of the patio is an artificial turf inlay pattern, adding a modern yet natural look when viewed from the home’s large windows. The travertine stone for the patio required precise sizing to achieve a geometrically and visually cohesive design to enhance the clean, contemporary look of the entire yard.

Additional levels offer flexible outdoor seating, a tranquil waterfall, and open space for children and pets. The top tier maximizes the yard’s potential by providing full access to the landscape. Lush plantings were included throughout to soften and enhance the smooth contemporary finishes of the hardscaping.

An effective and robust drainage system was integrated to direct water away from the house and prevent pooling at the lower levels.

As privacy was also a priority, we installed privacy walls, re-graded the land, and added rows of arborvitae. And landscape lighting was installed to provide the homeowner the ability to enjoy their new outdoor spaces long into the night.

This landscaping project posed some steep challenges. To create a tiered landscape, we had to remove large volumes of soil—not only from the yard itself but also excess soil left from previous construction.
